The US, Russia, and France issued a joint warning to Iran to stop enrichment. Supreme Leader Aytollah Khameini said Iran won’t let “arrogant powers rule the world.” Russia delayed the shipment of t S-300 air defense missiles due to “technical problems.”

Somalia

Shabaab seized control of the town of Diif on the Kenyan border after clashes with Hizbul Islam. Ten people were killed during clashes between government forces and Shabaab in Mogadishu. A Hizbul Islam spokesman urged Somali members of parliament to join their fight against the government.


Iraq

Insurgents killed two police officers in a bombing outside of the Criminal Evidence Department in Mosul and four civilians in separate attacks in Mosul and Anbar. Security forces detained 21 wanted men in Basrah, 10 insurgents in Diyala, and seven al Qaeda IED cell members in Ash Sharqat.


Terror reviews avoid word ‘Islamist’


Afghanistan

Afghan and Coalition forces killed a Taliban commander and four al Qaeda fighters in Helmand, and killed a Taliban fighter and detained 15 more in Khost, Kunduz, and Paktika. Joint forces accidentally killed eight civilians in Helmand and Kandahar. The Taliban killed three policemen in Kandahar and a Coalition soldier in Helmand.

Afghan Taliban military chief captured, aides confirm



The Taliban

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Afghan Taliban’s second in command and the group’s operational commander, is reported to have been captured in Karachi. Two Taliban commanders confirmed Baradar was captured but in the Afghan city of Marja, while a spokesman denied Baradar was captured.


Why would Pakistan arrest Baradar?

There certainly is a lot of speculation about Pakistan’s arrest of Mullah Baradar, Mullah Omar’s deputy and the operational commander of the Afghan Taliban.
