Malian authorities have former hostage and French national Pierre Camatte in their possession after exchanging him for four Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb members. The exchange was made before the AQIM deadline for Camatte’s execution expired. Algeria and Mauritania have withdrawn their ambassadors in protest at Mali™s actions in heeding to the demands of AQIM.
