Police arrested four Australian citizens who are part of a Shabaab terror cell in Melbourne. “Police believe members of a Melbourne-based group have been undertaking planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Australia and allegedly involved in hostilities in Somalia,” a police statement said.


Russia

Insurgents killed five police and wounded four more during an ambush in Chechnya Sunday evening. Grenade launchers and automatic weapons were said to have been used in the attack. Earlier Sunday, a police officer was gunned down in Dagestan and three workers from Ingushetia’s air rescue service were killed.

Security forces killed seven Taliban fighters in Swat and two more in Shangla. Twenty-seven Taliban fighters were captured in Swat, and two more were detained in Mianwali.


Lashkar-e-Taiba

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has indefinitely suspended hearings on the release of Lashkar-e-Taiba / Jamaat-ud-Dawa leader Hafiz Saeed. The government was challenging the Lahore High Court’s decision to release Saeed from a loose house arrest after the November 2008 Mumbai terror assault.

Eight Taliban fighters and two policemen were killed during clashes in Baghlan. Afghan soldiers killed five Taliban fighters in Helmand province.
