At least two civilians were killed after insurgents attacked an African Union base in Mogadishu. Shabaab imposed a curfew in Yed in the western Bakol region after government soldiers left the town. In Mogadishu, Shabaab arrested and whipped dozens of men for not having beards and whipped women for wearing bras.

Two suicide bombers, including a female, attacked a police station and an intelligence headquarters in the provincial capital.
A court found five Muslim men guilty of plotting attacks in Australia in an effort to wage “violent jihad.” The five men had stored chemicals and materials to build bombs and possessed “step-by-step instructions on how to make bombs capable of causing large-scale death and destruction.” The location of the planned attack was not disclosed.
Security forces arrested 32 suspected al Qaeda operatives during raids in eight provinces. The cells were suspected of plotting attacks against US, Israeli, and NATO targets in Turkey. The operatives are said to have received training in Afghanistan.
