Iraq

Security forces detained 34 suspects in Basrah; 15 al Qaeda operatives in Jananiyah, Rashidiyah, and Khanaqin; a former Baathist leader turned al Qaeda operative in Sulaymaniyah; and a Mahdi Army member in Baghdad. Insurgents killed a Christian boy in Mosul and wounded seven Iraqis in Baqubah and Khanaqin.


Somalia

The French navy captured 12 suspected pirates off the coasts of Somalia. Rwandan police are holding four Somalis for illegally entering the country. One of those arrested was carrying a forged South African passport. Hizbul Islam appointed a new Islamic administration in the Hiran region.

India

India likely will request terror suspects David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana be extradited from the US. Indian intelligence believes Headley scouted Mumbai for the Lashkar-e-Taiba prior to the November 2008 terror assault. Headley is also suspected of scouting five other Indian cities for possible attacks.







Somalia

Spain

A court said the Pakistani Taliban ordered a cell of men based in Pakistan and India to conduct suicide attacks in Barcelona’s subway system. Eleven members of the cell were detained in January 2008 after one of the cell members turned himself in to authorities.
