The radical cleric behind the Swat ceasefire and ongoing negotiations looks to mediate between the government and the Taliban in the most dangerous tribal agencies.
President Obama announced that all combat brigades will be withdrawn by the end of August 2010. A residual force estimated at 50,000 troops will be left to mentor Iraqi troops and police and assist in other areas. Defense Secretary Gates is calling for a small force to remain in Iraq after 2012.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Sharif brothers are ineligible to run for office and stripped them of control of Punjab province. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan said it will fully support the Lashkar-e-Islam if the Army launches an operation in Khyber. The Taliban said it will dismantle checkpoints in Swat after the Army leaves.
India has charged two purported Pakistani Army officiers, six senior Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders, and 30 other operatives for involvement in the November 2008 terror assault on Mumbai. The Pakistani Army officers were identified as Major General Saab and Colonel R Saadat Ullah. Lashkar-e-Taiba founder and leader Hafiz Saeed was also charged.
A general, a colonel, and several senior Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders are among 38 people charged with involvement in the November 2008 Mumbai terror assault. Only three suspects are in Indian custody.
