The military said 31 Taliban fighters were killed in airstrikes in Mohmand and six more were killed in Bannu and Swat. Nine Taliban fighters and two soldiers were killed during a Taliban ambush in Lower Dir; four more Taliban fighters were killed by a lashkar in Upper Dir.



Lebanon

Security forces broke up “a huge network of Al-Qaeda,” Brigadier General Jean Kahwaji, the commander of the Lebanese Army said. The group was plotting to “destabilise Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Gulf countries including Kuwait.” No further details on the cell were given.

General McChrystal has assumed command of Coalition forces in Afghanistan. US forces killed 23 Taliban fighters in Uruzgan province. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in southern Afghanistan and attacked musicians for playing at a wedding in Nangarhar province.




Philippines

Abu Sayyaf fighters ambushed a squad of Marines and National Police in Parang town in Sulu province, killing six troops and wounding ten. Police and militia rescued two abducted workers employed by a US-funded international development project in Mindanao within hours after they were abducted, thanks to prompt cooperation from local residents
