The leader responsible for the kidnapping of an Italian national and his Burkinabe wife has been arrested when attempting to return to Mali. The man, identified as Abderrahmane Ben Meddou, says he hails from a northern tribe in Mali and was offered payment of $22,000 USD for “surveillance and positioning of victims” for Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb to abduct.
