Thailand

A force of 200 Thai police and soldiers surrounded a house in Pattani province, laying siege to insurgents inside. In an intense 20-minute battle, six insurgents were killed and two police officers were wounded. Authorities were able to breach and secure the house.


Pakistan

The military killed four Taliban fighters and a commander in Swat. Police detained three suicide bombers in Quetta. The Taliban bombed a girls’ school in Khyber. Mullah Fazullah said he is in Afghanistan.


Somalia

Five civilians were killed after Shabaab attacked government troops in Mogadishu. The death toll of the battle between Shabaab and Hizbul Islam forces in Hagar reached 15. “Shabaab is our number one foe”, said Sheikh Abdi Nasser Serar, the foreign affairs chairman of Hizbul Islam. Iraq

Iraqi security forces detained 19 wanted men in Basrah, nine al Qaeda car bomb cell members in Baghdad, Kirkuk, and Diyala, and two insurgents south of Baghdad, and defused an EFP in Thi Qhar. Insurgents killed an Awakening leader in Diyala and wounded six Iraqis in attacks in Fallujah and Kirkuk.


Afghanistan

Afghan and Coalition forces killed nine Taliban fighters and two commanders and detained 23 more during operations in Wardak and Kunduz provinces. The Taliban killed 10 Afghans in yesterday’s attack in Kapisa and four construction workers in Kunduz, and beheaded two civilians in Farah.

An IAEA report suspected that there are additional nuclear facilities hidden in Iran. President Obama warned Iran that there are “consequences” for their lack of cooperation with the IAEA. Iran extended trade cooperation with Tajikistan.

Terrorists killed a deputy inspector general from India’s Border Security Force and wounded three officers in an IED attack as he was inspecting the Samba region at the border. Two soldiers and a terrorist were killed in a gun battle in the Keran region.


Pakistan

A suicide bomber killed four Pakistanis in an attack in Peshawar. Security forces killed 18 Taliban fighters in airstrikes in Arakzai and five more in Swat. A Taliban deputy confessed to executing a Polish engineer earlier this year.


Somalia

Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, Hizbul Islam’s top leader, reportedly submitted conditions for his defection to the Somali government to the president of Libya.
