Pakistan

The Taliban took credit for the suicide attack against a police checkpoint in Peshawar that killed 12 people. The military killed 15 Taliban fighters in Swat and Malakand, 12 in Arakzai, seven in South Waziristan, and two more in Mohmand.

Bangladesh

Police arrested three members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba for plotting to conduct terror attacks against US and Indian interests in the capital of Dhaka. The arrests were made with intelligence gleaned from US terror suspects David Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana.


Iraq

Iraqi security forces detained 23 al Qaeda operatives in Khanaqin, Mosul, Kirkuk, Bayji, and Duwayarh; 23 wanted men in Basrah; eight insurgents in Salahadin, Diyala, and Karbala; and four more insurgents in Fallujah. Insurgents wounded one Iraqi in a bombing in Balad Ruz.


Afghanistan

Afghan and Coalition forces killed 13 Taliban fighters and detained 11 more in Wardak, Balkh, and Herat provinces. The Taliban killed two US soldiers and a civilian contractor in IED attacks in southern and eastern Afghanistan.


Somalia

Somalia

The French navy captured 12 suspected pirates off the coasts of Somalia. Rwandan police are holding four Somalis for illegally entering the country. One of those arrested was carrying a forged South African passport. Hizbul Islam appointed a new Islamic administration in the Hiran region.

India

India likely will request terror suspects David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana be extradited from the US. Indian intelligence believes Headley scouted Mumbai for the Lashkar-e-Taiba prior to the November 2008 terror assault. Headley is also suspected of scouting five other Indian cities for possible attacks.
