Al Qaeda leaders Ilyas Kashmiri and Najmuddin Jalolov are thought to have been been killed during recent US airstrikes. The Pakistani Army captured a senior Swat Taliban commander and killed 11 fighters; eight more fighters were killed in Dera Ismail Khan, and six Taliban camps were destroyed in Hangu.
Insurgents killed seven Iraqi civilian and security personnel and wounded 15 more in attacks in Fallujah, Baqubah, Mosul, Baghdad, and near Kirkuk. Security forces detained two Ansar al Islam fighters in Erbil.
Security forces arrested 45 suspects thought to be involved with a plot to blow up the Burj Dubai, or Dubai Tower, the tallest building in the world. Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese were among those arrested. Iran is accused of being behind the plot.
