Iraq

Security forces detained 46 insurgents in Kirkuk, 14 wanted men in Basrah, and the ex-chairman of the Karbala provincial council, and prevented a suicide attack in Diyala. Four Iraqis were killed and 15 were wounded in two bombings in Baghdad.


Iran

Iran closed its border with Pakistan. Security forces defused a homemade bomb found on a domestic flight. Iran executed three men for complicity in last week’s mosque bombing in Zahedan and detained “a number of individuals who intended to create insecurity” in the city.


Russia

A Russian soldier and an insurgent were killed in a shootout in Dagestan’s capital. In North Ossetia, two people were killed in a drive-by shooting. An explosive device on a vehicle in Ingusetia killed three people; they may have been insurgents killed accidentally. On Saturday, three officers were killed in Chechnya during two separate explosions.
