Lashkar-e-Taiba

Indian anti-terror police in Delhi detained a key operative for Lashkar-e-Taiba in India and Nepal. The operative was to establish new sleeper cells to conduct attacks in India. The Punjab provincial government will appeal the release of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed.


Iraq

Nine Iraqis were killed in a bombing in Baghdad and one more was killed in a suicide attack in Mosul. Iraqi and Coalition forces detained terrorist cell leaders and four aides in Baqubab and Qayyara, four Special Groups fighters in Al Kut, and an Iranian in Basrah. Romania has ended it mission in Iraq.


Afghanistan

Three US soldiers were killed and one was wounded in an IED attack in Kapisa province. Afghan and Coalition forces captured four Haqqani Network fighters and detained a journalist and two others in Khost province. Afghan troops killed a suicide bomber in Paktika province. A kidnapped provincial council candidate in Ghazni was found dead.






Somalia

Royal Navy captures Somali pirates… and sets them free



Pakistan

Fifty of the kidnapped cadets in North Waziristan are still missing. The military said the Swat offensive may continue for months and claimed 20 Taliban hideouts in Haripur were destroyed. The government claimed the second and third tier leadership of the Swat Taliban has been eliminated.






Saudi Arabia

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula admitted that Abu Hareth Muhammad al Awfi, a Saudi who served as senior commander in the terror group, turned himself in to Saudi authorities. Awfi rejoined al Qaeda after being released from Guantánamo Bay detention facility and was on Saudi Arabia’s most wanted list.



Iraq

Iraq troops detained 58 wanted men in Karbala and 10 more in Basrah. Iraqi and US troops detained 7 “criminals” in Baghdad. In separate incidents in Mosul, one policeman was killed and one was wounded, and two Iraqis were wounded.


Afghanistan

Afghan forces killed 11 Taliban fighters during an attack on a hideout in Zabul province. One British soldier were killed in an IED attack in Helmand province. Ten security guards were killed in two separate bombings in Paktia province and another five were killed in Kandahar province.


Iran

Jundallah killed one civilian and wounded two others in an attack on a bus west of Zahedan, where violence has broken out over the past week. Israel’s foreign minister said his country has no intentions of bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities. President Ahmadinejad called the Holocaust a “big deception.”


Al Qaeda

Osama bin Laden released an audiotape to coincide with President Obama’s visit to the Middle East. “Obama and his administration have sowed new seeds of hatred against America,” bin Laden said, chastising the US for its support of Pakistani operations in Swat. Yesterday Ayman al Zawahiri released a tape, also criticizing Obama for visiting Egypt.


Algeria

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb fighters ambushed a convoy of teachers in Timezrit. An IED was followed by gunfire; two teachers and eight policemen were killed in the attack. An Algerian extradited from Britain has fled to the Afghanistan/Pakistan region and is thought to have rejoined al Qaeda.


Mali

Commander says US troops on schedule to leave all Iraqi cities


Somalia

Government forces took control of two police stations in northern and southern Mogadishu after battling Hizbul Islam and Shabaab. Ten Somalis were reported killed in the fighting. Somali troops moved into the town of Beledweyne. Gunmen kidnapped a TV director outside of Mogadishu.


Philippines

Exchanging their firearms for monetary reward, 19 Moro Islamic Liberation Front insurgents surrendered at a military encampment in lligan City. In the village of Bulanan in Maguindanao province, three MILF fighters were killed by an Army patrol.
