An Ethiopian army force reportedly re-entered the central province of Hiran and set up a base at the Kala-Beyr junction. The Islamic Courts and Shabaab battled outside Jowhar; one fighter was reported killed. Shabaab raided and looted UN officers in Johwar.

Elections have been postponed one month to January 2010. Security forced detained an Awakening leader and a senior Sunni politician in Diyala province, and a senior leader of the Islamic State of Iraqi in Mosul. Two Iraqis were killed in an IED attack in Baghdad.


Iran

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei claimed the US is sponsoring terrorist activities in Iran’s Kurdish regions from Iraq. “I say this firmly that unfortunately across our borders, our western borders, the Americans are busy making a conspiracy, they are busy fostering terrorism,” he said.




Russia

Over the weekend, one policeman and one civilian were killed in Dagestan’s capital, and four gunmen were killed in Ingusetia’s Sunzha district. On Monday, four militants were arrested in Nalchick, capital of Kabardino-Balkaria. Today, police are hunting a group of militants along the Ingush-Chechen border.
