Pakistan

Security forces killed 22 Taliban fighters in Bajaur. The Taliban killed a driver in Baluchistan who was carrying supplies for NATO. Seven Pakistanis were killed in violence in Swat. Villagers in Peshawar have armed after killing nine Taliban fighters.


India

India’s Army chief said surgical strikes into Pakistan “are definitely feasible.” The chief minister of Gujarat province said the Mumbai terror attacks could not have been carried out without internal help. FBI officials may be witnesses in the trial of the captured Mumbai terrorist.


The Taliban

The Taliban released a videotape of the beheading of Polish engineer Piotr Stanczak. The Taliban murdered Stanczak after the Pakistani government refused to release 60 Taliban fighters. Before he was beheaded, Stanczak appealed for Poland to withdraw from Afghanistan and cut ties with Pakistan.


Afghanistan

The commander of NATO said targeted raids against drug kingpins will begin within days. Two US soldiers were killed while trying to dismantle an IED. France will not add additional troops to Afghanistan.


Iraq

One policeman was killed and another was kidnapped in Sinjar. A soldier was wounded in an IED attack in Mosul. US troops killed a gunman in Mosul and accidentally killed a woman in Diwaniyah. One civilian was killed and 20 were wounded in three IED attacks in Baghdad.






Pakistan

Seven police were killed during a Taliban attack on a police outpost in Mianwali. The Taliban kidnapped 35 civilians in Hangu, killed three soldiers in Swat, beheaded a Polish engineer, killed a “US spy” in North Waziristan, and destroyed two NATO vehicles in Peshawar. Iraqi and US forces killed three “gunmen” near Balad Ruz. Iraqi forces captured 22 suspected insurgents in Baghdad and a leader of the Islamic State of Iraq in Mosul. One policeman was killed and three were wounded in a bombing in Diyala and three more were wounded in a bombing in Khanaqin.


Afghanistan

Afghan police and Coalition forces killed 10 Taliban fighters in Helmand province. Taliban fighters killed a cleric in Kandahar. Italy said it would send 800 additional troops while Germany and France sidestepped the question of sending more forces.

The military claimed 52 Taliban were killed in a helicopter strike on an ammunition depot in Khyber. The Taliban killed two “US spies” in North Waziristan and bombed a high school in Bajaur. Nuclear scientist and proliferator A.Q. Khan was released from house arrest.


Afghanistan

Afghan and Coalition forces killed seven Taliban fighters and detained 12 more during operations in Zabul and Khost provinces. Two Canadian soldiers were wounded in an IED attack in Kandahar province. Tajikistan will assist NATO with its supply lines.

Maliki: Iraq elections ‘changed political map’

Iraqi forces killed one insurgent and captured six more in Huwaiyja; Iraqi forces also detained five members of Ansar al Sunnah in Touz, two wanted men in Basrah, two in Amarah, two in Diyala, and three more in central Iraq. An Iraqi soldier was killed in an IED attack in Diyala.
