Prime Minister Hussein won a vote of confidence after the president tried to remove him from office. Ethiopian forces may have killed up to 23 nomads in Kaba Hirig after being attacked by Shabaab. Shabaab attacked a base manned by Burundian peacekeepers in Mogadishu. Uganda may pull its peacekeepers from Somalia.


Pakistan

A US strike in North Waziristan killed two people. Pakistani truckers have refused to transport NATO supplies due to Taliban attacks. Only one of 40 wanted leaders of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa has been detained. One policeman was killed in an attack in Mardan. Two Taliban fighters were killed in Bajaur.

Afghanistan

Afghan and Coalition forces killed 39 Taliban fighters and a Taliban commander during fighting two districts in Helmand province. Five more Taliban fighters were killed during operations in Helmand late last week. Coalition forces killed one insurgent and detained 16 more during operations targeting Hizb-e-Islami Gulbuddin (HIG) and Taliban commanders in Kabul and Zabul provinces.


Iraq

Eight policemen were killed and 10 more were wounded in a bombing west of Baghdad. Gunmen murdered seven Yazidis in Sinjar. A female suicide bomber killed one Iraqi in Tarmiyah. Coalition forces killed three al Qaeda operatives and captured 13 in raids nationwide. Iraqi forces captured 11 al Qaeda fighters in Diyala province.

Nato supplies trucking through Pakistan becomes hazardous

Many members of the security forces are deserting and taking their weapons with them. The president relieved the prime minister of his duties. The leader of the African Union wants to keep forces in Somalia. Pirates freed a captured Greek cargo ship.


Afghanistan

Three policemen were killed and three were wounded in a bombing in Kandahar province. The Taliban murdered one musician and kidnapped six more in Paktika province. Britain has deployed several hundred additional troops to Afghanistan’s South.


Al Qaeda

The Pakistani government has taken action against the Al Amin Trust, a front group that provides financial support to al Qaeda and the Taliban. Security forces raided and closed 24 offices and seized bank accounts, but no arrests were made. The Al Amin Trust is the new name for the Al Rasheed Trust.


Pakistan

The Pakistan Taliban took credit for attacks on NATO trucking Peshawar. The Taliban set fire to 18 CD shops in Hangu and bombed four shops and a police outpost in Peshawar. The Taliban killed a cleric and eight followers in Swat.

Pakistan’s president said the ISI has no links to Lashkar-e-Taiba. Pakistan’s foreign minister said there is no evidence Jamaat-ud-Dawa is a front group for Lashkar. Pakistan’s interior adviser said action was not taken against Jamaat-ud-Dawa due to pressure form India. Lashkar operative and Mumbai terrorist Amir Kasab requested legal help from Pakistan.

Coalition and Iraqi forces detained 13 al Qaeda operatives during raids throughout the country and arrested six more in Mosul. Iraqi forces detained seven suspects in Basrah and six in Dhi Qhar. Insurgents killed a soldier, a policeman, and a local mayor in Mosul.


Pakistan

Indian planes violated Pakistan™s airspace. The Taliban destroyed NATO supplies at a terminal in Peshawar; the police refuse to protect the convoys. The Taliban murdered two “US spies” in North Waziristan. The military killed four Taliban fighters in Bajaur.


Philippines

The Armed Forces of the Philippines said the Moro Islamic Liberation Front has merged with Abu Sayyaf in Basilan. A cease-fire committee found no evidence MILF-Abu Sayyaf merger in Basilan. MILF fighters killed three people and kidnapped three more in a village in Basilan.
