The Oct. 31 airstrike in North Waziristan may have killed al Qaeda commander Abu Jihad al Masri. The government freed 21 Taliban leaders and fighters in exchange for 21 captives. Security forces killed four Taliban fighters and captured nine more in Swat, and killed eight more in Bajaur. The Taliban have increased activities in Upper Arakzai.
