Saudi Arabia

The interior minister said al Qaeda planned to use cyanide in terrorist attacks, possibly to poison water supplies. Security forces seized cynanide, three tons of RDX, C-4 and TNT, and more than 25 tons of highly explosive mixtures during raids.



Al Qaeda

Abu Omar al Baghdadi, al Qaeda’s Islamic State in Iraq, confirmed that Abu Qaswarah was killed by US forces. Qaswarah had “thrown his Swedish passport in the trash bin,” and left his European wife and five children to fight in Iraq, Baghdadi said.


Afghanistan

A US airstrike accidentally killed nine Afghan soldiers in Khost province. Thirty-five Taliban and three policemen were killed in a two-day battle in Uruzgan province. Taliban commander Mullah Ghafar was killed in Kandahar province. A US Navy P-3 patrol aircraft was destroyed during a botched landing at Bagram Air Base.



Pakistan

President Zardari called for a civilian and political response to terrorism. Pakistani airstrikes killed 11 Taliban in Bajaur. Two soldiers were killed and one is missing in Swat. Security forces arrested 17 “miscreants” in Darra Adam Khel. The Taliban are planning to kidnap diplomats.
