An Afghan official said more than 70 Taliban fighters were killed in an airstrike in the Baram Cha district in Helmand province on the border with Paksitan. ISAF said the strike targeted and killed three Taliban leaders. Al Qaeda fighters are bypassing Iraq to go to Afghanistan.

Five Afghan students have gone missing inside the US. Pakistani intelligence agents re-arrested Juddi Kenan, the 20-year-old US citizen who was initially detained for illegally attempting to enter the Mohmand tribal agency. Kenan told police he was a student traveling to Mohmand to visit a friend.
