Iraqi security forces detained eight al Qaeda operatives in Babil and two female suicide bombers in Diyala. Coalition forces captured three al Qaeda suspects during operations in Baghdad and Kirkuk. One Iraqi soldier was killed and four were wounded in an IED attack in Mosul.

The chief of Somali forces ordered his troops to stop responding to mortar attacks with artillery. The UN announced the third round of talks between the government and insurgent groups.

Wanted Saudi al Qaeda operative Nayif bin Mohammed al Qahtani was interviewed for a magazine run by al Qaeda in Yemen. Qahtani admitted taking shelter in Yemen and said he chose to stay and fight on the Arabian Peninsula instead of Afghanistan to cause a “total collapse” of the oil capacity the West relies upon.
