Afghan intelligence said it foiled a plot to free Taliban fighters from the Pol-i-Charki prison outside of Kabul. Three guards were arrested for aiding in the plot. Nine Taliban and al Qaeda fighters, including two Taliban commanders, were killed in southern Afghanistan. Thirty Taliban fighters were captured.
