Violence during Ramadan is 82 percent less when compared with levels in 2007. Eleven policemen and eight Awakening fighters were killed during an ambush in the village of Dulaymat in Diyala province. Iraqi forces detained 26 insurgents in Baghdad, four insurgents in Ninewa, and eight Sunni terrorists throughout Iraq. Coalition forces detained five al Qaeda operatives in Kirkuk and Mosul, and a Special Groups weapons smuggler in Amarah.
