US and Afghan forces killed 16 Taliban after an attack on a district center in Paktia province. Attacks in eastern Afghanistan are up by 40 percent from last year. Two NATO soldiers were killed in attacks in Helmand and Nangahar provinces. Germany may send an additional 1,000 soldiers to deploy to the northern provinces.
