Somalia

Seventeen people were killed in clashes between the Islamic Courts and Somali and Ethiopian forces throughout Somalia. The US ambassador to Somalia has met with Sheikh Shaif Ahmed, the leader of the Islamic Courts, in Nairobi, Kenya to discuss the peace agreement.





Saudi Arabia

The US Treasury Department has designated all of the branches of the Al Haramain Islamic Foundation, including its headquarters in Saudi Arabia, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity. Afghanistan

Hundreds of Taliban fighters have been killed, wounded, or captured during operations to clear the Arghandab district, said the governor of Kandahar province. Afghan and Coalition forces detained two Taliban fighters in Ghazni province and three in Paktia province. One Coalition soldier was killed and two were wounded in a firefight in Helmand province.








Al Qaeda

The US Treasury Department has designated two senior leaders of the Islamic Jihad Union as Specially Designated Global Terrorists. Najmiddin Kamolitdinovich Jalolov and Suhayl Fatilloevich Buranov were designated terrorists for providing support for al Qaeda operations, conducting terror attacks inside Uzbekistan, and plotting attacks against US forces in Germany.

The Interior Secretary for the Northwest Frontier Province said the Taliban is moving on Peshawar. Four US Army helicopter engines went missing as they were being transported through Pakistan. The US is sending four F-16 fighters to Paksitan. An Air Force squadron leader has been kidnapped.

The US military said the Mahdi Army was behind yesterday’s car bombing in Karadah that killed over 50 Iraqis. Iraqi Special Operations Forces captured a Mahdi Army leader in Baghdad. The US Treasury Department has designated two Venezuela-based supporters of Hezballah as Specially Designated Global Terrorists. Ghazi Nasr al Din and Fawzi Kan’an, along with two travel agencies owned and controlled by Kan’an, were given this designation for providing financial and operational support to Hezbollah.

Afghan and NATO forces have launched an offensive to retake the villages in the Arghandab district north of Kandahar city. Thirty-six Taliban have been confirmed killed so far, and some of the villages have been cleared. Afghan troops and US helicopters engaged the Taliban in Kunar province a mile from the border of Pakistan.

US blames Shi’ite group for Baghdad bomb

A raid in Yemen netted an unspecified number of terrorists plotting attacks on Western targets including Riydh al Salehi, a leading member of al Qaeda. Eleven “wanted people” arrested in late May have yet to be identified, and include both local rebels and al Qaeda operatives.
