The Taliban attacked Sarposa prison in Kandahar, freeing an estimated 400 Taliban prisoners. Coalition forces killed 17 Taliban fighters after an ambush by a 100-man Taliban force in Uruzgan province. Coalition forces killed “several” Taliban fighters and a women in Paktia province; a suicide bomber detonated during the raid. A Romanian soldier was killed in Zabul province. NATO is looking to replace the US Marine unit in southern Afghanistan.
