An estimated 500 Taliban fighters took over several villages in the Arghandab district of Kandahar province. Afghan and Coalition forces are organizing a counterattack. Twenty-seven Taliban fighters who escaped from a prison in Kandahar have been killed; 20 prisoners have been recaptured. Britain will deploy an additional 230 troops to Afghanistan.
