Lebanon

Eight people were killed in clashes between Hezbollah and pro-government Druze forces in the Aley region north of Beirut. The Druze forces took control of a Shia village and Lebanese soldiers are arriving in the region. Fighting was also reported overnight in Tripoli and the Bekaa Valley in the north.


Al Qaeda

US forces killed two senior al Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan. Abu Suleiman al Otaibi, formerly a leader in al Qaeda’s Islamic State of Iraq, and Abu Dejana al Qahtani were killed during fighting in Paktia province, according to an al Qaeda forum.


Operations continue in Sadr City

Multinational Forces Iraq indicates the building of the wall and operations against the “Special Groups” will continue despite the cease-fire. EFPs are “the number one killer of our soldiers” in Baghdad.

The Afghan government is in negotiations with Hezb-i-Islami leader and al Qaeda ally Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. Police in Kandahar arrested three Taliban and foiled two IED attacks. Two Afghans were killed and seven wounded in eastern Afghanistan on after police fired at demonstrators protesting US raids in Nangahar.



Pakistan

Fifty tribesmen were arrested after the Taliban kidnapped 20 soldiers in Bajaur. Three terrorists with suicide jackets were arrested in Rawalpindi. An explosion damaged a mosque in Swat. Police defused a bomb planted near a police station in Peshawar.
