Afghanistan

Pakistani police killed Mullah Ismail, the Afghan Taliban leader behind the 2005 shootdown of a US Chinook helicopter that killed all 16 troops on board. Ismail was traveling from Afghanistan’s Kunar province into Pakistan’s Northwest Frontier Province and was shot after he failed to stop at a checkpoint. He was believed to be the most powerful Taliban commander in Kunar and was honored by Osama bin Laden for the helicopter attack.
