Israel to allow Jordanian-trained Palestinian forces to deploy in West Bank


Yemen

The SITE Intelligence Group reported an Internet posting from al Qaeda in Yemen claiming responsibility for a mortar attack on the US embassy in Sana’a last week. A schoolgirl and policeman were killed and 19 Yemenis wounded in the attack.


Egypt

A cargo vessel under contract to the US Navy opened fire on a small boat in the Suez Canal after it failed to obey multiple warning steps and continued to approach the vessel at a high rate of speed. One man was killed and three others injured in the ensuing gun fire.


Pakistan

Yousuf Raza Gillani was sworn in as Pakistan’s new Prime Minister by President Pervez Musharraf. Gillani was elected prime minister by a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly or lower house of parliament. Insurgents blew up 36 oil tankers destined for Coalition forces in the Khyber Pass area, 100 injured.

Iraq cleric’s militia starts protest, shuts stores






Yemen

Yemen released five individuals held for questioning in a mortar attack on the US embassy in Sana’a last week. The Interior Ministry denied that an al Qaeda link had been established as earlier reported by the state run al Thawra newspaper. Investigations are ongoing the ministry reported.
