The Pentagon is considering a plan to send 3,000 Marines to Afghanistan for a one-time, seven-month deployment to help blunt an expected Taliban spring offensive. “The commanders need more forces there,” said a Pentagon spokesman. “Our allies are not in the position to provide them.”
