US and Afghan forces killed 20 Taliban and wounded 10 as the fighters cross the border from Pakistan to attack US and Afghan forces in Kunar province. Taliban attacks in Helmand, Kandahar, and Zabul provinces claimed 12 lives. The Taliban assassinated the provincial head of Afghanistan’s National Reconciliation Commission in Zabul.


Pakistan

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy who admitted to being part of a backup team to attack Benzair Bhutto. A director of the Pakistan’s Intelligence Bureau was murdered in Mohmand agency. Pakistani troops targeted Taliban bunker in Swat.


Somalia

Pakistani Army retakes South Waziristan fort

Army launches assault on Saklatoi; heavy fighting reported in Chagmalai. An estimated 18 Taliban were killed and 40 captured. The Pakistani military is reported to be preparing for an offensive in South Waziristan.


Europe

Spanish police arrested 14 South Asians for plotting attacks in Barcelona. Twelve Pakistanis and two Indians were arrested during the police raids. Police found explosives and bomb-making materials during the raids.

General David McKiernan has been named the new commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. The US will deploy 500 MRAPs to Afghanistan.
