Five Taliban fighters were killed while trying to build a suicide car bomb in Kandahar province. Two Taliban bomb emplacers were killed when their IED detonated in Ghazni province. Ten Taliban fighters were killed while attacking a police station in Helmand province.

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb took credit for a suicide bombing attack on a police station the town of Naciria. Over 1,100 pounds of explosives were used in the bombing which killed four and wounded over 20.

Elections may be delayed for more than a month. The Pakistani government withdrew claims Bhutto was killed by a skull fracture. Four Pakistani paramilitary forces were kidnapped, five Taliban fighters were killed, and 20 captured during clashes in Makeen, South Waziristan. Twenty-seven Taliban were captured in Swat.

Fighting in Gaza resulted in eight dead and 60 wounded after Hamas attacked members of Fatah during a celebration. Israeli ground and helicopter strikes killed six members of Hamas’ Qassam rockets cells in Gaza.

A suicide bomber killed 30 Iraqis and wounded 38 at a funeral in eastern Baghdad. Iraqi police and soldiers captured a leader of al Qaeda in Diyala. Police arrested the leader of Buhriz’s Concerned Local Citizens and three aides for involvement with al Qaeda. One al Qaeda operative was killed and two wounded near Hillah.
