NATO requested Germany send combat troops to Afghanistan. The Taliban beheaded four Afghan roadworkers captured last week; three others were killed in IED attacks. Eight Taliban fighters were killed and three policemen were wounded during a clash in Uruzgan province. A Taliban spokesman denied his forces were behind the kidnapping of an American aid worker.
