An Army public affairs officer said the Muslim insurgency is “on the downtrend and have lost their chance to fight with the authorities.” The director of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center said the number of security forces in the villages in Narathiwat province would be boosted. The nephew of the Pattani Islamic Committee chief was killed by Muslim insurgents in a drive by shooting. Security forces arrested 13 suspected Muslim insurgents for ambushing and killing eight soldiers earlier this week in Narathiwat.
