Iraq

An al Qaeda suicide bomber killed 24 members of a joint Shia-Sunni tribal meeting in Shifta in Diyala province; 37 were wounded, including the governor. Task Force 88 captured a member of the Special Groups in Baghdad. Five al Qaeda operatives were killed and 34 suspects detained.


Afghanistan

Afghan Army soldiers, backed by advisors, killed 104 Taliban during a battle near Musa Qala Wadi in Helmand province, and NATO forces killed another 65 in a battle in Uruzgan. British Special Boat Service commandos helped free two captured Italian soldiers. A suicide bomber killed five police in Spin Boldak, Kandahar province.
