Security forces killed Hareg Zoheir, aka Sofiane Abu Fasila, along with two operatives. Zoheir is believed to be the second-in-command of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and planned many of the suicide bombings in Algeria. Twenty-two al Qaeda operatives were killed near the cities of Biskra and Batna.


Somalia

Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali, aka Abu-Mansoor, the spokesman for al Shabaab, said “jihad is all we need.” The government signed a truce agreement the the Islamist-supporting Hawiye clan. Heavy fighting was reported in southern Mogadishu.

Security forces broke up two Fatah al Islam cells based out of Sidon and Iqlim al Kharroub.
