Afghanistan

Six ISAF and three Afghan soldiers were killed in a Taliban ambush in eastern Afghanistan; eight ISAF troops and 11 Afghan soldiers were wounded during the fighting. “Several” Taliban were killed during fighting near the Nahr Surkh District of Helmand province. The ISAF and the Afghan military denied the Taliban controlled the Tarin Kowt-Kandahar road.

Leading Iraqi tribesman in Diyala killed in suicide attack

Al Qaeda killed a tribal leader in the Diyala Awakening movement and two others in a suicide attack north of Khalis. Coalition forces killed one al Qaeda operative and captured nine in raids nationwide. Iraqi Security Forces killed 14 insurgents and captured 44 during Operation iron Hammer in Mosul.

Fifty-nine schoolchildren were killed in the Baghlan suicide attack on November 6. Ball bearings were used in the Baghlan attack; police detained two suspects. The Taliban killed the Shah Joy district chief and nine police officers in Zabul province. Seven members of an IED cell were captured in Uruzgan.


Iran

The US released nine Iranians held in Iraq, including two Qods Force officers detained in Irbil earlier this year. Iran rejected Interpol’s warrants issued for five Iranian military and political leaders for involvement in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in Argentina.
