The military said 12 Taliban were killed and 40 wounded in strikes in Swat and Shangla. A peace jirga is forming in Swat. A tribal jirga in Bannu agency said it would stop Taliban attacks. A bombing on a railroad in Nowshera killed one person.

Security forces arrested Bouderbala Fateh, the head of the Algiers branch of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, and two associates. Almost 2 tons of explosives, detonators, and two schoolgirl’s backpacks rigged to detonate were recovered during the raid. Two members of al Qaeda were convicted in absentia for the murder of a prison guard.
