Islamic Courts leader Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed and the former leader of parliament Sharif Hassan Sheik Aden were named as the chairmen of the new opposition alliance. Five soldiers were killed and a vehicle and weapons were captured after the Islamic Courts fighters ambushed a patrol north of Mogadishu. The deputy national police commander escaped an IED attack in Mogadishu.
