Almost 50 Taliban were killed in fighting in the Sha Wali Kot district district in northern Kandahar; about 24 were killed the prior day. Police and British troops killed abut 24 Taliban while defeating ambushes in Musa Qalah wadi in Helmand province. About 230 civilians were killed and 600 wounded in Taliban bombings this year, while about 500 police were killed in fighting since March.
