The Taliban kidnapped the mayor of Gershk in Helmand province and a district chief in Logar province. Two Canadian soldiers were killed and two journalists wounded in an IED attack in Kandahar. Fighting has broken out in Kapisa province north of Kabul. The German hostage held by the Taliban appeared in a videotape.
