The governor of the NWFP wants to negotiate with the Taliban in North Waziristan. Seven soldiers and 15 Taliban were killed in clashes in North Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan. Tribal elders in Khyber Agency want to negotiate with the Taliban. An IED attack killed a tribal elder in Bajaur. A fatwa was issued against friends of the US and Jews in Swat. More troops are being deployed to Kurram agency to block routes for the operation in Tora Bora in Afghanistan. A “mob” attacked a police station in Quetta; two police were shot and two Taliban were freed. The Lal Masjid will reopen on August 20.
