NWFP Governor Jan Aurkzai told the Pak-Afghan peace jirga that peace will not be achieved without negotiating with the Taliban. The Afghan Army, backed by Coalition advisors and air support, defeated a large Taliban ambush on a patrol near the town of Washir in Helmand Province. Ten Taliban were confirmed killed and dozens others are believed to be killed or wounded. Six suspected Taliban were captured in the Jadran district of Paktia province.
