Dozens of Islamists and al Qaeda operatives were released from jail. Four paramilitary troops and three Taliban were killed in clashes in Bannu. Nine were killed, including four Taliban, during a jirga in Hangu. Police arrested three suspects in the July suicide attacks in Islamabad and Sargodha. NGOs in Swat have been shut down after Taliban threats.
