Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt on Mustafa Kartali, a leader of the Islamic Salvation Army who reconciled with the government. Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb said Kartali “abandoned jihad activity thus betraying his companions.”
