Saudis make up almost half of the foreign fighters in Iraq. “About 45% of all foreign militants targeting U.S. troops and Iraqi civilians and security forces are from Saudi Arabia; 15% are from Syria and Lebanon; and 10% are from North Africa, according to official U.S. military figures” provided to the Los Angeles Times.



Thailand

Thai police collected DNA and fingerprints from 150 students and teachers at an Islamic school that authorities suspect was a training ground for insurgents. Muslim insurgents murdered a rail worker in Narathiwat province.


Philippines

MILF warned the government not to retaliate for the beheading of 10 Marines last week. The Philippine army believes it is close to capturing Bali bombing mastermind Dulmatin after receiving information from an informant.

Fatah al Islam launched at least 15 Katyusha rockets into the surrounding villages of the Nahr al Bared Palestinian refugee camp. One civilian was killed and several others wounded.

Dozens of members of Fatah and the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in the West Bank have signed a pledge to stop attacks on Israel in exchange for being removed from an Israel wanted list. Polls show support for Hamas in Gaza is at 23 percent. Eighty percent of the factories in Gaza are closed.


Al Qaeda

Khaled Mahmud Ahmed, the leader of al Qaeda in Egypt, has fled to the Gaza Strip, according to confessions from members of al Qaeda’s Egyptian network. Police also accused senior al Qaeda figure Mohammed Abdel Hamid of “spreading Al Qaeda ideology and planning attacks against tourists, based on a fatwa by Bin Laden.”
