Twenty Taliban were killed during fighting in Ghazni and Zabul provinces. Six Canadian troops were killed in an IED attack on their convoy in the Panjwai district of Kandahar. A US general stated the high civilian death estimates are innaccurate.


Yemen

“Scores of al Qaeda suspects” have been arrested in Sana’a, Abin, and Aden, following the suicide attack that killed 10 at the temple of the Queen of Sheba in Marib province. Security has been increased at government buildings, embassies, and for government officials in wake of the attack.




Pakistan

[UPDATE2] Government forces detonated a series of explosions at the front wall of the Lal Masjid; CNN claimed the wall was “demolished.” Up to 20 have been killed and 200 wounded during the fighting, while about 1,200 students have left the mosque. Ayman al-Zawahri, al Qaeda’s second in command, released a 1:35 long videotape where he addresses an “array of Middle Eastern topics from Iraq to Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian territories and Egypt.” He also called for all Muslims to participate in al Qaeda’s war against the West.
