A Taliban spokesman said one of the 23 South Korean hostages has been killed after the Afghan government refused to negotiate. Eight Koreans are reported to have been freed. A kidnapped German journalist and two Afghan assistants were freed. Upward of 75 Taliban were killed after ambushing U.S. and Afghan forces in Helmand province.
