An unconfirmed report indicated senior Taliban commander Jalaluddin Haqqani died of Hepatitis. Afghanistan’s defense minister denied Iran is arming the Taliban. France will send 150 trainers for the Afghan Army.

Palestinian Territories

President Abbas dissolved the Hamas led parliament and declared a state of emergency. Hamas overran the Fatah run Preventive Security headquarters, and executed men in front of their families; 15 were killed and 80 wounded in the battle. The town of Rafah also fell to Hamas. Fatah arrested 36 Hamas in the West Bank.


Afghanistan

NATO and Afghan forces killed 26 Taliban during two engagements in Kandahar province. A NATO airstrike killed Mullah Mahmud Baluch, the Taliban commander of Helmand and Nimroz provinces. A NATO general said the Taliban failed to successfully launch its spring offensive.
