The Puntland regional government said 12 Islamists, including 6 “British nationals, Americans, Swedish, Pakistanis and Yemenis” were killed in fighting over the past few days. The Islamic Courts killed the Somali intelligence chief in Kismayo. An Ethiopian patrol was hit in an IED attack in Mogadishu.

Iran continues to ship weapons to both Iraq and Afghan insurgent groups. The Fajr-3, a 240mm rocket with a 30 mile range, has been fired at US forces int he Green Zone three times, and two arms shipments, which “included 107mm mortars, rocket-propelled grenades, C-4 explosives and small arms,” have been intercepted in Helmand province.

The Lebanese Army stormed Fatah al-Islam positions on the outskirts of the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian camp near Tripoli. “We have encircled the building where the group’s leader, Shaker Abssi, is holed up, and our forces are a 150 meters away,” an unnamed Army officer said. Three soldiers were killed and 10 wounded in today’s fighting.
